In collaboration with the prominent Public Health team at North Northamptonshire Council, our mission was to harness the power of data across various themes to generate meaningful insights. The goal was to contribute to evidence-based decision-making and optimise public health strategies for the benefit of the community.
Our primary objective was to leverage diverse data sets within the Public Health domain; by adopting a comprehensive approach, we could extract actionable insights that could inform strategic planning, resource allocation, and the implementation of targeted interventions.
Our engagement with the Public Health team involved the creation of a suite of topic-based reports and dashboard tools aimed at providing valuable insights to service leads and commissioners. Two specific areas, Weight Management, and Substance Misuse, witnessed the transformative impact of these tools, leading to informed decision-making and influencing the re-commissioning of future services.
In the realm of Weight Management, our reports and dashboards delved deep into the data, shedding light on trends, patterns, and the effectiveness of existing programs. The insights gleaned played a pivotal role in shaping the re-commissioning strategy for weight management services. By identifying areas of success and opportunities for improvement, service leads and commissioners were empowered to make data-driven decisions that aligned with the evolving needs of the community.
Similarly, in the domain of Substance Misuse, our tailored reports and dashboard tools facilitated a comprehensive analysis of relevant data, providing a different understanding of the landscape. This informed approach allowed service leads and commissioners to strategise the re-commissioning of services, ensuring that resources were directed toward evidence-based interventions and programs that had the most significant impact on mitigating substance misuse issues in the community.
Beyond these specific areas, our collaboration extended to bespoke work on Asthma admissions in children and self-harm episodes. The outcome of this specialised focus was the development of a Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) based dashboard. This dashboard, initially designed to address Asthma admissions and self-harm episodes, proved to be highly adaptable. It became a versatile tool capable of accommodating data related to any type of diagnosis. The success of this product was such that it found widespread adoption within the Public Health team, serving as a dynamic and customizable resource for monitoring and analysing various health indicators.
Our approach to data analysis and reporting for the Public Health team is characterised by a comprehensive utilisation of all available data sources, both published and local. Our commitment is to extract meaningful insights and provide detailed reports on activity and performance across a diverse range of Public Health themes. By tapping into a spectrum of data sources, we ensure that our analyses are robust, encompassing a complete understanding of the factors influencing public health.
One key element of our methodology is the integration of live data where feasible. This dynamic approach allows for real-time insights and facilitates the automation of reporting processes. By linking directly to live data sources, we enable the Public Health team to stay abreast of evolving trends and respond swiftly to emerging health issues. This not only enhances the timeliness of reporting but also empowers decision-makers with up-to-the-minute information critical for effective interventions.
Our commitment to tailoring our solutions to the specific needs of the Public Health team is reflected in the creation of bespoke reports, dashboards, and mapping tools. Each tool is meticulously designed to cover essential themes within the public health domain, including Smoking, Weight Management, Substance Misuse, and Self-Harm, among others. These tools serve as dynamic and user-friendly interfaces, providing a visual representation of complex data sets and facilitating a deeper understanding of health trends and outcomes.
