Panoramic Associates is supporoting a Special School in London with their search for an Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral) – Behaviour & Attitudes to join from September on an initial term contract, with strong potential to extend.
This is a highly visible, whole-school role combining pastoral leadership, therapeutic/multi-disciplinary coordination, and a teaching commitment of approximately 10 lessons per week (in your specialist subject), working across Year 5 through Sixth Form.
The role
You’ll take the lead on Behaviour & Attitudes and pastoral strategy across the school, ensuring consistent practice and high-quality safeguarding and attendance oversight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and coordinating the therapeutic team and wider multi-disciplinary teams (MDT)
- Working closely with specialist professionals including SaLTs and OTs
- Reviewing, assessing and improving the existing whole-school behaviour system and policy (currently in place, with scope to evaluate and refine)
- Taking on Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) responsibilities, ensuring robust safeguarding practice across the school
- Providing oversight and strategic leadership of attendance
- Teaching c. 10 lessons per week in your specialist subject across Y5–Y13, alongside leadership responsibilities
Essential experience
To be considered, you must have:
- Strong, recent experience working in a special school for autism
- Proven ability to lead (or significantly contribute to) behaviour/pastoral practice at whole-school level
- Confidence working alongside therapeutic and MDT colleagues and embedding consistent approaches across staff teams
- Safeguarding leadership capability appropriate for DSL-level responsibility
