Role summary
An Multi Academy Trust in the Manchester area is seeking an Interim HR Advisor to provide hands-on, operational HR support on a part-time basis (3 days per week). The postholder will take the lead on employee relations (ER) casework and absence management, supporting managers to resolve matters fairly, consistently and in line with policy and employment law.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HR advisory support to line managers on a range of ER matters, including (but not limited to) conduct, capability/performance, grievance and disciplinary processes.
- Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive ER cases, ensuring clear documentation, appropriate risk management and timely progression.
- Lead on absence management, including short-term and long-term absence cases, supporting managers with attendance reviews, return-to-work processes, and escalation routes where required.
- Coach and guide managers on best-practice people management, ensuring decisions are consistent and evidence-based.
- Support with the preparation of letters, meeting packs, outcome notes and case timelines.
- Ensure HR activity aligns to internal policies, safeguarding expectations (where applicable) and relevant employment legislation.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (and external advisers where needed) to ensure robust case handling and appropriate outcomes.
Skills & experience (essential)
- Proven experience in a generalist HR advisory role with significant exposure to ER casework.
- Strong working knowledge of absence case management (short- and long-term).
- Confident advising and influencing line managers, including in challenging or emotionally charged situations.
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple cases concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written communication skills (letters, summaries, case notes).
Desirable
- Experience within education.
- CIPD qualification (or working towards), or equivalent practical experience.
