Panoramic Associates are working with a council in North England in the search for a Tribunal Manager to oversee SEND Mediation and Appeals. This role is essential in ensuring that the Council fulfils its statutory duties effectively, while working closely with parents, schools, and legal representatives to secure the best outcomes for children and young people.
As the Tribunal Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the Council’s SEND Tribunal processes. This includes managing complex cases, facilitating dispute resolution, and representing the Council at the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST). Your leadership will be key in minimising the Council’s exposure to tribunal risks and enhancing service delivery through strategic collaboration with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of SEND mediation and appeals, ensuring the Council meets its obligations in relation to statutory appeals.
- Lead resolution meetings with parents and professionals, striving to resolve disputes amicably and avoid formal legal action.
- Work closely with schools, education providers, and other agencies to build partnerships that reduce tribunal risks and support positive outcomes.
- Manage complex SEN cases, utilising your negotiation skills to achieve efficient and effective resolutions.
- Prepare and present the Council’s cases at tribunals, ensuring all documentation is accurate and submitted within deadlines.
- Provide guidance and training to team members, ensuring best practices are upheld and consistency is maintained across all cases.
Qualifications & Experience
- Managerial experience and the organising of such within SEND Mediation & Appeals, providing key leadership in case management of Mediation and SEN appeal related cases.
- Significant experience in a Local Authority Educational/Legal environment.
- Proven track record in managing complex cases and representing the Local Authority at mediation and tribunal hearings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution abilities.
- Analytical skills to interpret complex information and make informed decisions.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
