An exciting opportunity has arisen within a London Borough local authority for a Virtual School Advisory Teacher to join their team. This vital role will focus on improving the educational outcomes of children in care and previously looked-after children, ensuring they receive support, advocacy, and enrichment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted educational casework for a caseload of looked-after children.
- Advise and challenge schools, social workers, and carers to overcome barriers to learning.
- Oversee Personal Education Plans, ensuring timely completion and purposeful use of pupil premium.
- Deliver training to Designated Teachers, school staff, carers, and social workers on best practices and statutory responsibilities.
- Monitor attendance, track progress, and initiate interventions to raise attainment.
- Travel nationally to work directly with pupils and schools, where needed.
- Collaborate with partners to organise enrichment activities, bespoke learning packages, and celebration events.
- Contribute to the strategic vision of the Virtual School and the development of policy and performance tracking tools.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching at least two key stages
- Solid understanding of the statutory function and purpose of a Virtual School
- Strong report writing skills, with the ability to follow direction and work independently
- Hybrid working: regular travel expected to schools in and out of London (travel warrants provided for out-of-borough visits)
