Interim SEND Transport Improvement Officer
Location: London Borough
Contract: Initial 6 months
Working Pattern: Part-time, minimum 3 days per week
Day Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience and working arrangement
Panoramic Associates is supporting a London Borough with the appointment of an experienced SEND Transport Improvement Officer to deliver a number of focused service improvement projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a SEND transport professional with a strong operational management background who can work independently to review existing arrangements, develop practical proposals and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost savings.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a proposal for an independent travel training programme, including recommendations for implementation.
- Undertake a feasibility review of bringing elements of SEND transport provision in-house, assessing financial implications, operational challenges and potential barriers.
- Review existing SEND transport routes and arrangements to identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost reductions.
- Produce clear, evidence-based recommendations to support service improvement and decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with transport management and wider council stakeholders to progress agreed projects.
Essential Experience
- Strong operational experience within SEND/home-to-school transport, ideally within a local authority.
- Previous experience managing or overseeing a SEND transport service or team.
- Good understanding of transport commissioning, service delivery, costs and operational challenges.
- Experience identifying service improvements, efficiencies or cost-saving opportunities.
- Ability to independently manage projects, develop proposals and deliver practical recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, analytical and report-writing skills.
The Opportunity
The council is seeking someone who can hit the ground running, bring practical operational knowledge and take ownership of defined improvement projects without requiring extensive direction.
This is not primarily a day-to-day casework, eligibility or appeals position. The focus is on operational service improvement and project delivery.
The appointment is expected to run for approximately six months, with a minimum commitment of three days per week.
