Estates & Asset Assistant Director – £650-750 – 6 Months – Essex – HYBRID (3 days in the office)
Panoramic are supporting a progressive Local Authority in Essex who are seeking an experienced Assistant Director Estates & Assets to join them on an interim basis. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role focused on driving forward the Council’s property strategy and ensuring its asset base is delivering strong financial and community outcomes.
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys operating at both a strategic and operational level, with the ability to influence decision-making, lead teams, and identify commercial opportunities across a varied portfolio. In this position, you will take ownership of a mixed portfolio of commercial and operational assets, ensuring they are proactively managed and aligned to wider organisational goals.

This isn’t a background role you’ll be right at the centre of key decisions, balancing commercial thinking with public value, and seeing the tangible results of your work across the borough.
In this position, you will take ownership of a mixed portfolio of commercial and operational assets, ensuring they are proactively managed and aligned to wider organisational goals
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Leading the Council’s asset strategy, ensuring a clear and deliverable approach to portfolio performance
- Identifying and progressing opportunities to enhance asset value, including redevelopment, acquisition, and disposal activity
- Providing expert property advice to senior leadership and key stakeholders
- Overseeing the performance and development of the estates team, fostering a high-performing environment
- Managing financial performance across the service, including budget oversight and income generation
- Driving forward service improvements and contributing to wider transformation initiatives
- Embedding modern and digital approaches to estate management processes
- Ensuring assets are effectively managed to meet both commercial objectives and community needs
