Interim Accountant – Adult Social Care
An opportunity has arisen for an interim Accountant to join a London Borough supporting a busy Adult Social Care finance team. This is a stakeholder-facing role supporting frontline service delivery, so prior Adult Social Care finance experience is essential.
The role
You’ll provide day-to-day finance support across Adult Social Care, with a focus on budget monitoring, reporting, and insight to help operational managers and senior leaders make decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Budget monitoring, forecasting support, and financial reporting for Adult Social Care budgets
- Producing monthly management information and reports for senior leadership / SMT forums
- Supporting corporate reporting requirements and government returns
- Quarterly and statutory reporting cycle support
- Analysing client/service-related financial data and turning it into clear insight for non-finance stakeholders
- Building and maintaining dashboards / reporting outputs (Power BI) where required
- Working closely with operational managers and liaising with external stakeholders (e.g., partner organisations)
What we’re looking for (essential)
- Recent Adult Social Care finance experience (understanding ASC structures, service-user categories, reporting classifications, and how the service operates)
- Strong reporting and analysis capability (comfortable working at pace and independently)
- Confident, professional communication style with the ability to challenge and support stakeholders
- Able to work on-site at least 2 days per week
Highly desirable
- Power BI (dashboard creation and reporting)
- Experience with ASC case management / reporting systems (e.g., Mosaic)
- Local authority finance system experience (e.g., Agresso/Unit4)
- Wider local government finance background
Contract & working arrangements
- Initial contract: 3 months (extension possible, subject to service need and permanent recruitment progress)
- IR35: Inside
- Working pattern: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week on-site (preferred days typically Monday and Wednesday)
- Start: Targeting early July
