Strategic Lead for SEND and Inclusion
Location: Yorkshire Local Authority (Hybrid – 1-2 days onsite per week)
Rate: £650 per day (via Umbrella)
Contract Type: Interim – 6 Months
About the Role
We are supporting a Yorkshire local authority with their search for an experienced Strategic Lead for SEND and Inclusion to oversee it’s SEND strategy and improvement journey. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, this role is central to preparing the service for an upcoming Ofsted SEND inspection later this year.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of the local authority’s SEND and Inclusion strategy
- Drive service improvement and readiness for Ofsted SEND inspection
- Build strong relationships with schools and education settings across the region
- Provide strategic oversight to three direct reports:
- Head of SEND Funding
- Head of SEND
- PEP
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure inclusive, high-quality provision
- Monitor performance, identify gaps, and implement solutions to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience of strategic leadership in SEND services within a local authority
- In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, funding, and inspection frameworks
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, especially with schools and education leaders
- Proven track record of preparing services for Ofsted SEND inspections
