Locum Planning & Highways Solicitor – Competitive hourly rate – Hybrid Working – North East Local Authority
Location: Hybrid – Primarily remote, with occasional in-person attendance
Contract: 6 months
Rate: DOE – open to discussion
Start: Mid-August 2025
We are working with a local authority in the North East is seeking a Locum Planning & Highways Solicitor to join their legal team.
This role is ideal for an experienced solicitor who thrives in a hybrid working environment and enjoys a broad caseload across planning enforcement, DMMOs, and highways law. You’ll be joining a small, supportive team that values independence, collaboration, and high-quality legal advice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of planning enforcement prosecutions
- Advise on and progress Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) applications
- Represent the council in prosecutions at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court
- Attend and advise at planning committee meetings (ad hoc)
- Support Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs) and regeneration projects
- Provide legal advice on planning, highways, and enforcement matters
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales)
- Experience in planning law and planning enforcement prosecutions
- Confident advocate in magistrates’ courts
- Strong ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Experience in highways law desirable
- Previous involvement in CPOs and regeneration
- Willingness to travel to for court hearings
