Assistant Principal Property Lawyer

Panoramic Associates are working with a London Borough Council to recruit an experienced Assistant Principal Property Lawyer for an urgent interim position. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior-level role, managing high-profile commercial property matters, including compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) and development-related legal work, while leading a team of 4-5 legal professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle complex commercial property transactions, including disposals, development projects, and CPO-related matters.
- Provide legal support to the council’s CPO schemes and local plan development.
- Supervise and manage a small team of approximately 4-5 staff.
- Work closely with the Principal Lawyer and the Director of Law, contributing to strategic and operational legal services.
- Liaise with the council’s separate contracts legal team, which supports wider development work.
Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx with at least 10 years’ PQE in commercial property law (essential).
- Extensive experience in compulsory purchase and property development work.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a small legal team.
- Local government experience preferred but not essential for candidates with strong commercial property backgrounds.
- Must be able to hit the ground running with minimal supervision, especially if working remotely.
- Residential property experience is not required-this role is exclusively focused on commercial property.
Contract Details:
- Rate: £60 per hour (umbrella, inside IR35) – confirmed as the maximum rate available.
- Contract Length: 3 months initially, with a strong potential for extension due to ongoing permanent recruitment.
- Location: Hybrid working model – 2 days per week on-site. Flexibility for remote working may be considered for exceptionally experienced candidates.
- Start Date: Immediate start available
