Interim Senco
Interim SENCO – Birmingham
Start: Early November 2025
Contract: Until mid July 2026
Rate: £competitive day rate (depending on experience) inside IR35
Working pattern: Full-time preferred (4 days considered)
An established and forward-thinking primary school in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Interim SENCO to join their leadership team from early November. This is a non-teaching role, ideal for a SENCO who enjoys stepping into an organised setting, maintaining momentum, and ensuring a smooth transition period for staff and pupils.
The role
You’ll oversee the school’s SEND provision, leading on EHCP reviews, supporting teachers with inclusive practice, and working closely with a skilled SEND assistant and pastoral team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading all aspects of SEND across the school, including oversight of EHCPs and support plans
- Line managing a small SEND team (SEND assistant and resource base staff)
- Working collaboratively with senior leaders to embed inclusive practice
- Liaising with external agencies, the local authority and parents
- Supporting a well-established “resource base” provision within the school
What we’re looking for:
- Experienced SENCO with strong knowledge of Birmingham SEND systems and processes (SSP)
- NASENCO qualification (or significant experience and willingness to undertake)
- Proven ability to lead, influence and collaborate at a whole-school level
- Confident managing statutory processes and supporting colleagues in class-based practice
